America’s Hottest Housing Market: Manchester, NH, Tops the List for a Record 29th Time

Despite high interest rates slowing down the U.S. housing market, two regions are defying the trend: the Northeast and Midwest. These areas have consistently appeared in the top 20 of Realtor.com’s Hottest Housing Markets list for the past 11 months.

Northeast and Midwest Lead the Way

Demand in these regions remains robust, with views per property in the top 20 being 2.5 times the national average in August. Home prices in these areas climbed 3.3% year over year, even as national home prices dropped by 1.3%. According to Realtor.com® senior economic research analyst Hannah Jones, the Midwest and Northeast metros have dominated the list since February 2022.

Manchester, NH: A Consistent Leader

Manchester, NH, has been a standout, ranking as the hottest housing market in August. This marks the 29th time Manchester has topped the list, and it has been among the top three markets each month for over three years. The median home price in Manchester is $550,000, significantly lower than Boston’s median price of $834,500, just 55 miles away.

Manchester’s listings received 3.3 times more views in August than the national average. “High demand is met with low inventory as buyers claim available homes,” says Jones. “This dynamic has kept time on market quick and competition fierce.”

Why Manchester?

In addition to its competitive housing market, New Hampshire offers a financial advantage with no state income or sales tax, making it an attractive option for homebuyers.

The Takeaway

As the Northeast and Midwest continue to attract homebuyers, Manchester, NH, stands out as a prime example of a thriving housing market. With high demand, limited inventory, and favorable tax conditions, Manchester is likely to remain a top contender in the housing market.
